Majority for my childhood was spent eating home cooked food. I didn’t come from a lot of money when I was younger so I was always stuck with home made food. Don’t get me wrong I love home cooked meals ,but the great taste of a Mcchicken with sweet and sour sauce is something that cant be made at home. On occasion my dad or step mom would come home with with fast food but that was rare. I guess I can say when I was in high school that was when my fast food craze started. I was working at the time so I always had money in my pocket and I was way too lazy to cook for myself. And whenever my friends and I would go out and and all the food was put away at home, the drive throughs were always open. Fast food is so tempting for people my age, its cheap, it right there when you order it and it taste great. My health never really concerned me because I’m young , active and have a very fast metabolism.
Recently ive been pretty bad with fast food. And it doesn’t help that I live down the street from a jack in the box. I try to eat home cooked meals as much as possible and leave the dollar menu as a last resort, but I always seem to go with that last resort. But when I go get fast food I try to keep it healthy as possible by getting plain chicken sandwhiches. Sometimes its really hard not to eat fast food when your on a budget, because spending five dollars on the dollar menu can easliy get you full rather than spending ten dollars on groceries for dinner. But ive been meaning to cut down because I think my metabolism is starting to catch up with me. Im trying to pick up better habits and get over my cooking laziness as I like to call it. I would rather get on a healthy eating regiment now then have to get on one when im older and have health problems. High blood pressure runs in my family so I think I should get on the ball now and make better choices. Its going to be real hard for me since I live so close to a fast food place and its going to be real tempting on those nights when there isn’t to much to eat at home. But I figure if I just start out slow by cutting down instead of just stopping I should be fine. I figure I was only given one body, I got to take care of it.
I think a lot of us need to cut down on the fast food, but it really seems impossible. I don't think we need to get rid of it completely, but like you said cut down on the portions we eat and make smart choices.
ReplyDeleteI live down the street from McDonalds and I like the chicken nuggets with sweet and sour sause. You are right no home cooked meal can take the place of that wonderful taste.
ReplyDeleteSince you mention about your family having blood pressure, you should really then cut down on fast food. Yeah its hard I know, but your health is the best gift to you.
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain in living so close to a fast food branch. But little by little your body will adjust to your life changes. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteI can definitely relate. The fast food restaurants, the laziness, the fast metabolism. It's a great life until we get older. But it's like you said, start out slow and your body will get the hang of it.
ReplyDeleteYou stated prior medical history in your family is high blood pressure. When was the last time you went to a doctor and had a check-up? If the dollar menu is a constant in your life then you are at an increased risk for all kinds of medical problems just from family history alone. Coupled with that kind of diet it can go from bad to worse real quick.
ReplyDeleteYou also stated it's cheaper to eat out than purchase groceries for your meal. I have to disagree with that one. Preparing your own meal will always be cheaper and healthier for you. If a meal costs $10 to make it was probably a large meal and you have the benefit of left-overs for when you don't have the time to make a meal.

ReplyDeleteLuckily I live by a Subway, although I feel your pain. I would always be getting $1 dollar tacos when I'm starving and low on cash.
ReplyDeleteYea i know what you mean by having fast food right by your house. My family also has high blood pressure as well so I Understand that as well.
ReplyDeleteI can relate to fast food being so tempting at a young age. I also had to resort to fast food whenever my parents put all the food away since I usually came home late, and money was never a problem since it was all so cheap.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you had wat alot people had and its the craze of fast food in high school.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the fact that it's tempting, but it's easier to stay away from it when you educate yourself about what really goes into these "tempting" foods.
ReplyDeletealthough this still isent healthy, you could buy a bunch of ramin, its cheaper than fast food and slightly healthier, and its homemade-ish
ReplyDeleteI can relate to the home cook meals and only getting fast food every blue moon. I used to think my parents were so mean but now I know why they kept it away from me
ReplyDeleteFast food is tempting, and cheap, i know. I usually go to my grandmas if i want home cooked meal. I can cook just dont have the time for it.
